We must address the underlying structural and economic issues
To solve issues like high sewerage and water bills. To have customers for our local businesses. To have the flood control structures we need. To have more people to help build New Orleans into the world class city we know it can be we need to grow our population.
If you want jobs for New Orleanians we need a strong economy. If you want enough money in New Orleans to fix streets and pay police we need a strong economy. If you want to have a vibrant city where we can support the creative endeavours of our citizens we need a strong economy. We need to be a city focused on Economic Development.
If you want to alleviate the poverty that drives crime, you need Jobs and Opportunity in New Orleans, If you want students to see that their education has a clear purpose, you need Jobs and Opportunity in New Orleans. If you want New Orleanians to be able to sustain themselves and even thrive in their city, you need Jobs and Opportunity in New Orleans. Jobs and Opportunity are the key to many of the issues that New Orleans has struggled with. We need to focus on Jobs and Opportunity if we are to solve them.
The zoning code has taken thousands of former corner stores in New Orleans and made it so they could never house a business again, and that is why we need Zoning Reform. The zoning code adds months of approvals to even the most minor variances and that is why we need Zoning Reform. The zoning code has allowed City Hall bureaucrats to substitute their design preferences over the wishes of the owners of most businesses and some homes and that is why we need Zoning Reform. The zoning code has added multiple "rings to kiss" in a process fraught with opportunity for corruption and that is why we need Zoning Reform. Zoning Reform is necessary if we are going to encourage Population Growth, Economic Development and the investment in New Orleans that leads to Jobs and Opportunity.
